Autumn Vibes

One of  my favorite passages from one of my favorite novels,
The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Many things change during this time of  year. One of the biggest changes is the mood of the music I listen to. I slow things down and listen to the artists that allow me to reflect on my life. Here is a small sampling of the music I'm into, especially during this time of year. City and Colour has been and will always be on heavy rotation. What kind of music do you gravitate toward as the weather grows colder? I could talk about  this all day so feel free to leave me suggestions!

Until next time,

Favorite Fall Nail Polishes

We all have that one thing in our daily routine that helps us feel more put together. For some people, it might be a really nice watch or the right pair of shoes. For me, it's freshly painted nails. I'm guilty of owning way, way too many bottles of nail polish. I had to purge over half of my collection because I realized how ridiculous I was being. I still have more than the average person, but I do paint my own nails and I paint them often. Doing my nails may seem like I'm just looking for an excuse to be lazy (maybe), but it's also a time for me to focus on a small task when I have a lot on my mind. I genuinely enjoy the process.

I thought I would share with you some of my favorite nail colors for this time of year. I've always been particularly drawn to dark nail colors, especially dark purple, but I have six different colors to show you today.

Off center, but you get the idea.

And yes, I did actually paint my nails 6 times for this post.

O.P.I. "Live and Let Die"
It's a deep forest green shade with small gold shimmer flecks.
It appears black, but upon further examination, you see how green it is.

NYC "Plaza Plumberry"

Dark purple nails have been a thing for me for a long, long time.
I've tried several shades from different brands,
but this one is lovely with a great formula and an even better price point.

(This is where I was supposed to swatch Sinful Colors "Aubergine",
but I did a horrible job painting it on.
The formula is very wet, so beware when you go to paint your nails.
Use more caution than I did. Obviously.)

China Glaze "Below Deck"
The newest addition to my nail polish collection and already a huge favorite.
Dusty purple is one of my favorite colors of all time and
I had been looking for a shade like this for some time.
I'm glad I found it. Also, this is an incredibly easy formula to work with.

Essie "Ladylike"

I bought this bottle ages ago and have worn it so much that I need to buy another bottle.
It's a lovely dusty pink/blush color that flatters and suits whatever I'm wearing. I love it so much.

Revlon "Elegant"

Elegant indeed. I feel like such a proper person when I'm wearing this.
It is the complete opposite of the dark colors I'm usually sporting,
but it's also nice to have a bit of change. A great neutral.

*Bonus*
O.P.I. Nail Envy can be esspensive, but it's worth it.
I do not have naturally strong nails, but this stuff really works.
I've tried the regular formula, but I've found the matte version
helps my poor nails the best. They are stronger now and
grow a lot faster. It's worth checking out.

So there you have it, some of my very favorite nail polishes that I own and wear often. What are your favorite shades for fall? Any recommendations so that I can have an excuse to buy more nail polish? I mean...what?

Until next time,
Amelia

Warm & Shimmery Makeup Tutorial

September feels more like a new year to me than January 1st. I mean, Fashion Week happens at the beginning of the fall and why do you think September issues are always so huge? Because this is the time of year to experiment and jazz things up a bit. I may play around with makeup a lot, but there are some (a lot of) days that I can't be bothered to do anything that requires more than five minutes of my time. I know you feel me on that. So, I thought I would share with you a little tutorial that will help freshen up your daytime face and it is super easy to do. Not to mention shimmery eye shadow is pretty and I like pretty things.

Ta da! I look awake, right?

What are some of your tricks to look more revived in the morning, particularly on chilly days? Your girl needs all the advice she can get.

Fall Fashion Inspiration Part 1

I'm not saying I'm obsessed with Pinterest, but I am on there a lot perusing the great style photos. I found all of these images on there and there's a lot more on my Pinterest boards. A lot more. Here's just a sampling of the kinds of things that are inspiring my sartorial choices lately.

The last picture has been a favorite of mine for ages. I love the distressed cardigan paired with a cozy fur. So cute. What kinds of the things are you loving for this time of year?

My Favorite "MLBB" Lip Products

There is an acronym for the exact shade of lipstick I'm always on the hunt for. "MLBB": My Lips, But Better. I equate this with any shade that has that great pink/brown/nude quality that can't quite be defined. So 90's, so perfect. I thought I would share some that I own and love. I will go into detail about each one so you can get a better idea of which ones you might like.

Now, upon first glance you might be thinking to yourself that these all look like the same color. And... that's kind of true. Being the makeup enthusiast I am, I can totally justify owning five lip products in the same color family. It's because they are different! I promise! The colors are slightly different, the formulas are different, the finishes are different, and I'm telling you these things matter in terms of makeup.

Do you see the differences? I know you do.

My absolute favorite is this little baby right here. MAC's "Twig" is what I wear most often. It's a satin finish, so it's kind of matte, but not really. It's more on the dark pink side and it smells delicious.

NYX Butter Glosses are a huge thing right now. I'm not huge on lip gloss in general, because my hair gets stuck in it, but this formula is something I can work with. They smell amazing, they stay on pretty well, and this color is my favorite.

Revlon Lip Butters had a moment. They are a nice alternative to lipsticks because they are a lot creamier and they don't make your lips dry out the way some lipsticks can. The finish is a lot shinier, but I don't think they last as long on the lips as a traditional lipstick. It is, however, a nice alternative for those who don't like to spend a lot of time applying lip products. Swipe and go.

It's almost embarrassing how long I've owned this Revlon Lip Stain. It's so easy to use and it stains my lips so I don't have to reapply all that often. Brilliant. It's a lot more pink than the other products, but the more you apply the darker it gets.

This Rimmel lipstick first enticed me because it's a part of the Kate Moss line. Can't help it. However, this lipstick is lovely and it is very affordable. I believe these are under $5. The finish is satin and it also leans toward the pink side, just like MAC's Twig. I'm not saying it could pass as a dupe or anything, but it is very  nice all on it's own.

So, 9 times out of 10 I am wearing the MAC lipstick, but I do like all of these formulas for different reasons and seasons. Does anyone have any other MLBB suggestions I should look into?

Until next time,
Amelia

September Mood Board

Ah, yes, September. As you may or may not know (you totally already know) this is by far my favorite time of the year. Unfortunately I will be missing out on the spectacular seasonal change this year, as I am living somewhere a bit, um, warm, but I will be in fall mode nevertheless. For instance, I was wearing a sweater earlier today, but I realized it was over 90 degrees outside and decided it would be best to change. There's only so much I can do. In the mean time, I thought I would share some visual deliciousness of this season. I'm sure I'll share more as time goes on and I collect more photos. I can't get enough of this, I really can't. What kinds of things remind you of the beginning of fall?

None of these images are my own. I found all of them on Pinterest. Follow me on there if you wish.

As this lovely season commences, it is time to remember to wind down and cozy up. Hot chocolate, anyone?

Until next time,
Amelia

Simple Makeup Tutorial | Brows & Lips

Okay, I know I have been gone for a bit. I'm finally back with a chai tea latte in my hand and many ideas for this blog inside my head. Don't think I've forgotten about this space. I could never.

Here is a little something I put together to help everyone get in the autumn spirit. This is truly my favorite time of the year, so expect a lot more posts in the near future. Today I wanted to share how I get my bold brows and mauvey lips, considering this is my favorite makeup look. And what could be more appropriate for this time of year? Click the video to see how I achieve this look.

Sonia Kashuk tinted brow gel | Milani Brow Fix brow kit | Jordana lip liner in Rock 'N Rose

The finished product.

As I mentioned in the video, I plan to do a lot more true autumn inspired looks. I'm thinking dark berry tones, dramatic eyes, vampy lips, the works. I welcome autumn with arms wide open! I have some great ideas up my sleeve, so stay tuned. It feels good to be back. I hope you all are well.

Until next time,
Amelia
