Dressing for Winter | Inspiration

So many things have been inspiring me lately, particularly in the way that I dress. A little bit of Chicago still resides in me somewhere, so I can't break my habit of wearing black and grey all of the time. They are my favorite colors. However, I have ventured into wearing navy lately, so that's progress. I have been building a wardrobe that feels more like "me", whatever that means. See what's been inspiring me below...

Francoise, always.

I haven't used my Polyvore account in ages, so I thought I would throw together some looks that I rock regularly and a few that I would like to wear in the near future. Polyvore is great because it gives you ideas and also allows you to pretend that your dream closet truly exists. Here are five looks plus a collection of cute winter things at the bottom.

Nice Things for Winter

What has been inspiring the way you dress this winter? Naturally, if it's very cold where you are, then you may be throwing on whatever keeps you warm. Might as well bundle up with a massive scarf/blanket that you love, right?

Winter Time | Mood Board

I thought I would share a little holiday cheer on my blog since it's almost Christmas! I find winter to be aesthetically pleasing, aside from the grey slush that gets stuck to your car and shoes in February. But we won't worry about that yet because it is still December and that means it's time for Christmas trees, baking cookies, and hanging up fairy lights wherever you please. Without further ado... a little winter/Christmas/cozy inspiration...

All of these images are from my Pinterest. Follow me there if you aren't already. :)
Also, I have uploaded (yet another) tag video on my Youtube channel. It is the "Winter Wonderland" tag and it was a lot of fun to film, so I hope that you enjoy it as well.

I hope you all are having a very happy holiday season. I am taking the time to enjoy loved ones and reflecting on of all the changes that have occurred in 2014. I encourage you to do the same.

Some Things I Can't Stop Thinking About | Edition One

I try my best to not think too much about the past. What is the point, really? Things are how they are and you cannot change what you have done. However, try as I might, thoughts of the past still creep up from the dustiest corners of my mind and I have come to terms with this. Why fight something that comes naturally to you? I'll allow myself to play around with the memories that come rushing back. I do not think there is anything wrong with reflection. In fact, I think it is rather important to gather up all of things you have learned in order to best figure out how to be happy in the moments you are given. I am often told I should allow myself to relish in the present moment and to not worry so much about what has happened or what might happen. I agree with this wholeheartedly, I should absolutely appreciate the present moment. Especially the present moments that make me feel completely alive, in the best and worst ways. The kind of  moments when you tell yourself, "Remember this. Remember this as best as you can because it cannot last forever." Those are the moments that have become my favorite memories. And so, these are the memories, the good and the bad memories, that I think about because at one point I told myself to remember those moments.

It has been said that smell is the most prominent sense connected to memory. That is very true. There is a certain perfume I wear because my aunt used to wear it. Certain body washes and lotions remind me of all the different houses I have showered in. Weird, right? Smelling cigarette smoke on someone's clothes reminds me of college. Traveling to new places gives me the ability to figure out what the new place "smells like" i.e. salt water, car exhaust, sewage, etc. It's a funny thing, connecting smells to moments we have lived in. I don't know about you, but a huge connection to memories for me are songs. Of course, there are the songs you were listening to with someone or while thinking about someone. The songs you played when you didn't want to get out of bed, the songs you played to feel powerful, the songs you listen to on repeat because finally someone else understands exactly how you feel. But what about the song you play for the very first time, a song  you have truly never heard before,  but it strikes a nerve inside of you? You wonder how it is you have never heard this song before because it sounds like a memory. Your mind spirals back into long lost memories, to certain times with people in a place you loved. You feel every single feeling you  had in that moment coming back to you. And all because of this song you are listening to the first time.

This is the song. It takes me somewhere I used to know. It takes me to the girl I was in those moments I didn't want to forget. I'm glad I didn't forget.

Five Favorites | Winter Nail Colors's December.
I haven't been on here in a minute. My apologies. Rather than blabbing on about all the reasons I haven't been blogging, I'll get started on this post and hopefully make up for all the time I've been away. As you know, I am a nail polish purchasing fiend. It's a disgusting habit that I have no intention of kicking any time soon or ever. With that said, I'm back with some new favorite nail colors I want to share with you! I have one absolute favorite, so keep scrolling to see which one of these little gems holds the top spot in my nail polish collection.

 L to R:
Orly "Nite Owl",
Orly "Halo",
 Orly "You're Blushing",
O.P.I. "Dutch Tulips",
and Essie "After School Boy Blazer."

I painted the left nails with one coat and the right nails with two coats
so you could get a better idea of what the opacity looks like.

"Nite Owl" is a taupe shade with golden shimmer throughout it.
What can I say? I like my old lady nail colors.
The shimmer jazzes it it up.

"Halo" is so beautiful.
It's opacity is pretty decent, so you get a lot of glitter with just two coats.
It's made many appearances on my Instagram account. ;)
Also, I can't help hearing this song in my head right now.

Moving right along...

"You're Blushing" is the most lovely nail color I've found in a long time.
I used to wear Essie "Lady Like" for a feminine nail, but this one wins.
It's slightly purple, but not lavender.
It's my favorite shade of taupe, you could say.
I have received many compliments while wearing this color.

"Dutch Tulips" is a bright, in your face kind of red.
It's probably the best bright red shade I have found for my skin tone.
I also receive a lot of compliments about this color.
And nothing says "Christmas" quite like bright red nails.

Now, I beg you to disregard how messy my nails look in this photo.
This little baby is "After School Boy Blazer".
It appears black to the untrained eye, but upon a closer look,
it is quite obviously a deep, vampy navy.
I bought the small bottle of this at Target to give it a try,
but I think I will need to purchase the full size bottle sometime soon.

And the winner is...

After School Boy Blazer
Because I can't help but love my dark, vampy nails.
Also, ignore whatever face I'm making in this picture.

What nail colors have you been loving so far this winter? As always, I am open to suggestions for any excuse to buy more nail polish. I hope you all are having a wonderful December so far!

Until next time,
